WILL YOU HELP? Intake numbers are climbing and we need the help of the community. We know puppy and kitten season is just around the corner so PLEASE consider FOSTERING or ADOPTING a shelter animal during this time. Foster opportunities are available through the shelter or our rescue partners. Short term fostering has proven effective to increase the odds of adoption and it saves lives. Please contact Courtney if you can help foster or have any questions. 832-702-4407 / foster.coordinator@mctx.org

I appreciate that this focuses on fostering as a realistic option, not just adoption—people can do a lot of good even if they can’t commit forever. Do you all have any guidance for first-time fosters on what supplies are actually essential vs “nice to have”? I’ve seen similar step-by-step checklists on this site for totally unrelated stuff, and it really helps reduce the anxiety of getting started.
It’s hard not to feel for shelters when adoptions slow down, because the numbers don’t pause just because people are busy or stressed. Short-term fostering sounds like a practical bridge (even just a couple weeks) so animals aren’t stuck in kennels the whole time — funny enough it reminds me of how people do quick “before/after” experiments with ghibli ai styles casual ghibli ai styles just to see what’s possible. Really hope more folks share this with neighbors who might be on the fence.
The timing of “puppy and kitten season” always catches people off guard, and it’s rough when intake climbs but adoptions dip. Short-term fostering feels like one of the few ways regular folks can help without a huge long-term commitment — kind of like trying a quick practice run with a classic vigenere cipher tool simple vigenere cipher tool before you fully dive in. Hope more locals see this and step up.
