SAVE THE DATE! National #cleartheshelters day is coming up Saturday, August 17. All adoption fees will be waived on this special day. Adoptions include spay/neuter, vaccines and microchip. The shelter will open 30 minutes early at 11am and will remain open until 5pm.
Clear the Shelters is the largest single-day adoption event in the country. The day is all about finding homes for shelter pets nationwide - as well as bringing awareness to shelter overcrowding. There are over 750 dogs, cats, puppies and kittens currently at Montgomery County Animal Shelter (MCAS) who all need loving homes. MCAS is over capacity and we hope to see a significant number of adoptions.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the Clear the Shelters event, there will be no animal intakes. If you have to surrender your pet or you have found a stray, please wait until Sunday, August 19.

Over 750 animals needing homes really puts the scale of the issue into perspective. Hopefully this event helps reduce that pressure and connects more pets with families. It’s also great to see how much emphasis is placed on community participation—sharing posts, spreading awareness, and showing up all make a difference. In a similar way, creative digital tools like lyrics to song AI are being used by some communities to create themed content and campaigns that resonate emotionally and reach wider audiences.
