Diamonds in the Ruff

These pets are being offered for adoption at special prices. There is always a reduced fee for long term residents and senior animals.  There is always a reduced fee if taking more than one animal.  Senior animals for senior people (over 65) are free.  Sometimes are animals remain in the shelter for months and months for no good reason.  We have found that once these animals are placed in homes, they are the most loyal and loving animals.  They know you rescued them and they are so grateful. Their bio information is provided by our volunteers, so MCAS cannot vouch for any of the details. Please come to the shelter and print a picture of the animal that interests you.

GEORGE A120070

Curious George has grown up at the shelter. He's a puppy still, and he won't get much bigger. He looks to be a rat terrier mix. He's sweet and trainable. He deserves to be with a loving family.

He has been neutered and has his vaccinations. Yoda is also Heartworm negative. Please call Linda at 281-298-4661 if you have any questions about Yoda.

LEON A116775

This boy is full of energy. As he is still a puppy he has exercise needs that are not being met at the shelter. He would require a lot of time just running around playing and then some training time after some of the energy has been played out.
Puppies growing up at the shelter is the saddest thing to see.  He most likely doesn’t remember ever having a family, if he ever did. But this doesn’t mean he can’t be taught to live in one. There are many wonderful trainers at the area pet stores and the boarding facilities usually have trainers also. They would be able to teach an adopter to properly train this happy little boy to be a part of a family for the first time in his life.  Leon came to the shelter as a stray in July of 2009.
He has been neutered and has his vaccinations. He also is Heartworm negative.  He is still under a year old but won’t be a very big dog.  Please call Linda at 281-298-4661 if you have any questions about Leon.

ASTRO A118867

Miss Astro is housebroken, loves to play ball, walks well on a leash and is a true sweety.

She is at the Montgomery County Animal Shelter.

CHERI A112244

As you can see Cheri is ready for Christmas. What a sweet addition to the Christmas festivities she would be. This adult Black Lab mix is just as gentle as her name implies her to be. She has been at the shelter for a while now and her friends are really hoping she will have a home before Christmas Day arrives.
She is very gentle on the leash but will frolick about when off leash. Cheri would be a good companion for a single person or a home with more activites.  Though she had suffered some injury to her right front leg and shoulder she is able to take part in walking every day and loves to romp outdoors for a little while. Her injury has made her shoulder stiff. She does walk with a  limp but is not in any pain.
Cheri needs a special home. She is heartworm positive and will need treatment. The Montgomery County Animal Shelter will do the treatment for her but she must be in a home first.
This girl would be a very loving addition to any home and would love to curl up at your feet on cold winter nights. If you are interested in her please call Linda at 281-298-4661.

PRINCE LANCE A109197

Prince Lance grew up at the shelter after arriving as a puppy April 17, 2009.

I am so playful and full of life it is hard to believe I lived at the Montgomery County Animal Shelter for over 8 months! It took quite a bit of work, not to mention starting to trust people as doing more than just giving me food, but I can now live in a house and not be afraid of daily sounds. That’s hard to do when all you’ve heard your whole life is a lot of dogs barking like crazy all the time! I still react to brand new sounds, BUT I look to my foster mom and when I hear the words “Lance, it’s OK” I relax. Sometimes I go to her and need her to touch me and say it again, but then I trust her. I even stopped barking at the fireworks New Years Eve!!! I still have a bit of trouble with really BAD thunder and lightning storms, like the one we had before Christmas.
I had a bit of training at Bed Bath and Biscuit. They taught me how to “sit” and “down”. My new foster mom has taught me- heel aways, sitting as soon as she stops when we are on a walk, sitting for my food and treats (she makes me WORK for stuff), sitting before I get to walk through a door to leave, “get back” when she goes to the front door, showing her when I need to “go potty” (I sit pretty by the door and wait), how to go “up” and “get down” from a vehicle (I LOVE to go bye bye), and lots more! I will learn anything just for your love and attention. Treats can help too…Oh and she does a lot of “dominance” and “focus work” with me, but she’ll explain that to you.
I am very good with kids, though my foster mom says- no kids under age 7…I’m a BIG dog and gonna get bigger. The kids need to be able to assert themselves and be alpha to me…I’m a bit stubborn so when I want to play they have to be able to say “no” and maybe put me in my “house” (kennel), if I don’t listen, for a short time out.
Oh, speaking of size- I’m BIG. My foster mom weighed me and I’m 64 lbs. I have a lot of muscle development and even some more height coming, so you’ve got to love a BIG LUG of a DOG. I’m also a mixed breed- Boxer/German Shepherd. You can see the boxer in my ears, how I play (I box), my feet, and body shape…the German Shepherd gives me size and my coloring, as well as my protection mode. I might gain another 10-25 lbs, so please keep that in mind.
Some more facts:

  • I LOVE MEN!
  • I wear a pinch collar…but she will show you how those work too
  • I have ALL my SHOTS
  • I have NO heartworms and am on prevention
  • I have NO fleas and am on prevention
  • I LOVE to chew, so I need toys and walks in morning and evening…don’t leave me in a yard or I will dig or jump your fence…I’m a companion dog
  • I can learn anything – even how to open doors, kennels, etc…so if you want a dog that does tricks…
