Adoptions

Adoption Fees and Incentives:

Adopting a shelter animal is a rewarding experience that you will not regret! Not only are you saving a life, but you are getting a forever friend that will love you unconditionally. The MCAS adoption fee for dogs is $75 and $65 for cats. The adoption fee includes the costs for spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, de-worming, and micro-chipping. In addition, adult dogs have been tested for heartworms and cats have been given a feline leukemia test. The fee is the same for cats, kittens, dogs or puppies whether male or female. Occasionally, the shelter will reduce the price of a specific animal for a variety of reasons or offer a discount for those wishing to adopt multiple pets.

Adoption Application:

All adopters must complete an Adoption Application. The application includes basic contact information, as well as, information that will help determine if the adopter will be a good pet owner. All Adoption Applications will be reviewed by an Adoption Coordinator before being accepted. You may complete the application prior to your visit to the shelter by clicking here!

Adoption Programs:

There are two ways to adopt an animal from MCAS: 'Foster-to-Adopt' and 'Adoption'.

Foster-to-Adopt

This program allows adoptable animals that have not been sterilized a pathway to adoption in the near future. Animals too young for sterilization or that have health concerns for sterilization are required to enter the Foster-to-Adopt program. Under this program, a potential adopter will complete the application and contract, pre-pay for services required to enter the animal in the Foster to Adopt program (equivalent to the adoption fee) and obtain a spay/neuter surgery date for the animal.  Potential adopters will adhere to the Foster Program policies and procedures until the surgery has been completed.  MCAS hold ownership of the animals until the adoption contract is signed after the spay/neuter surgery.  Foster-to-adopt animals cannot be sold, given away, de-clawed, or docked until the adoption is final.  If the animal becomes ill during thefoster period, the adopter MUST bring the animal to the shelter for examination and treatment or incur the cost of treatment themselves.  The animal may be exchanged or returned within 7 days after the Foster to Adopt contract is finalized.  The orginal receipt must be provided for all returns. Allow 4 to 6 weeks to receive a refund.

Adoption

This program is geared towards immediate ownership once an animal has been selected.  Animals that have been spayed/neutered and vaccinatedcan be adopted. Adopters must complete an Application, complete the interview, sign the Adoption Contract and pay the adoption fee to complete the adoption process.  We recommend bringing the animal to your personal veterinarian within 7 days of adoption.  If thepet exhibits medical concerns during this period, the adopter can bring the animal to the shelter for examination and treatment by the veterinary staff.  The animal may be exchanged or returned within 7 days after the Adoption contract is finalized.  The orginal receipt must be provided for all returns. Allow 4 to 6 weeks to receive a refund.
